Hollywell
Hollywell
is a delightfully friendly Georgian House, beside the River Shannon,
just across from the pretty town of Carrick-on-Shannon. Its secluded
and tranquil setting, with gardens running right down to the river,
and its emphasis on comfort and relaxation make it a lovely place in
which to escape the outside world.
Former hoteliers in the town, the Mahers have been entertaining
guests for six generations and do so with charm and expert knowledge
of the area. Their breakfasts are excellent, with lots of home-made
goodies and freshly-baked bread. Two of the bedrooms are
exceptionally large and overlook the river.
Hollywell is a great central base from which to tour many of
Ireland's great houses. Outdoor enthusiasts can choose from canal
walks, golf, cycling horse-riding, fising, hill-climbing on the
Leitrim Way or in the Leitrim Glens, or a visit to the Lough Key
forest park.
