Castlecoote House

Castlecoote House is a fine Georgian country house over looking
the beautiful River Suck, surrounded by woodland and pastoral
countryside. Built between 1690 and 1720 in the enclosure of a
17th-century fortified house, and on the site of a medieval castle,
the house and grounds have a fascinating history spanning five
centuries.
Castlecoote House was the birthplace of the Gunning sisters (later
Duchess of Hamilton and, subsequently, of Argyll, and Countess of
Coventry), legendry beauties at King George II's court, whose
portraits by Sir Joshua Reynolds can be seen in the hall.
Castlecoote House has been lovingly restored with magnificent stucco
ceilings, marble fireplaces, four-poster beds and luxurious
bathrooms.
Outside are two tennis courts and a croquet lawn. The beautifully
landscaped gardens running down to the river, an orchard of rare
apple trees, the towers of the ruined castle and an ice house make
this a truly romantic and historic haven.
