Ballinkeele House
Ballinkeele
House, built in 1840, is the ancestral home of the Maher family.
The house is set in 350 acres of game-filled parkland, with fine
stands of mature trees, several lakes and ponds and an atmosphere
of complete tranquility.
With its distinguished classical portico, Ballinkeele provides
a civilised base for a relaxing break in a comfortable, lived-in
family home, beautifully maintained by John and Margaret, the present
owners. The walls are covered with portraits and prints and the
ideal combination of space, comfort and character. Margaret is a
member of Euro Toques and uses fresh local ingredients, including
produce from farm and garden, to great effect.
Ballinkeele is an excellent base for touring the Southeast. There
are bicycles and wellingtons to explore the surroundings or you
can enjoy a game of croquet on the lawn. Amenities include the long
sandy beach at Curracloe (the Normandy Beaches in 'Saving Private
Ryan') with 6 golf courses, fishing and riding available nearby.
The highlight of the year is the world-famous Wexford Opera Festival,
held each October.
