Barton House
Barton House lies at the heart of a glorious village in the north
Cotswolds, well known to Shakespeare and only 18 miles south of
Stratford-upon-Avon.
This Elizabethan manor house was extensively redesigned by Inigo
Jones in 1636. The gardens with their ancient trees and much new
planting extend to some 6 acres. There is an en-tout-cas tennis
court and croquet lawn.
Gillian and Hamish Bewley Cathie welcomed Wolsey Lodges guests
to their family home for the first time in 1996. They are widely
travelled and speak French, German and Italian.
The family farm extends to 1200 acres with pedigree limousins, arable,
farmed red deer and woodlands. No pets or children under 16 please.
Barton House is opposite the village green of Barton-on-the-Heath.
From Oxford take the A3400 north via Woodstock towards Stratford-upon-Avon.
After some 23 miles turn left in the village of Long Compton by
the church at the sign marked Barton 2½ miles.
