Gate House

Gate House is a fine and rare example of a 15th century Grade II* thatched and granite built Devon hall house. It was already firmly established long before Henry VIII ascended the throne of England, and even before Columbus discovered America.

John and Sheila, who previously enjoyed busy professional careers before retiring to Devon, have devoted themselves to the restoration and refurbishment of Gate House. They now enthusiastically welcome their guests to this once privately owned village of North Bovey, this area of ancient settlements, medieval villages, remote moorland and of course to Gate House. It is hoped that guests will experience the same wonder and awe of Dartmoor, often described as the last great wilderness of England.

Take B3212 westwards from Moretonhampstead. After approximately 2 miles turn left and follow signs to North Bovey. Gate House is off the village green, 50 yards down Lower Hill, past the village inn.
