Woodhayes
Woodhayes has a commanding view of the Otter Valley which Daniel
Defoe once noted to be The finest landscape in the world.
This small estate, providing enjoyable walks, includes 150 acres
of wood and pasture land and an acre of carefully tended garden.
It is situated in the Blackdown Hills (an A.O.N.B.) bordered to
the north east by the prominent Dumpdon Celtic hill fort and the
River Otter to the south. Honiton, a mile away, is a thriving market
town and centre for antiques and has excellent shops.
The setting is idyllic for the classical listed Georgian house
with superb views from all the windows. The farm and vegetable garden
provide much of the produce which Christy, a talented and imaginative
cook, converts into the most delicious cuisine, eaten with your
hosts in the pre 18th century dining room hung with family portraits.
The familys history is evident everywhere in this friendly
house.
Woodhayes is situated 1½ miles north east of Honiton. Take
Dunkeswell road out of Honiton, cross small bridge over River Otter.
150 yards turn right. Woodhayes is first drive on left.
