Cinder Hill
Rusland
has been the home of the Archibald family since the early 19th
century and in modern times Cinder Hill has served as the dower
house to the Hall, a splendid Georgian mansion next door. This
lovely home with old oak beams, flagstone floors and fine antiques,
exudes warmth and comfort. Outside, lawns, herbaceous borders and a
parterre are embraced by the spectacular valley and woodland
landscape beyond.
Unwind with a stroll or a friendly game of croquet before everyone
gets together for dinner, which is the highlight of any stay.
Although the candlelit dining room, crystal glasses, silverware and
crisp table linen may seem formal, the dress code can be, and often
is, more relaxed.
In summer, guests take coffee in the conservatory to watch the owls
and deer, or in winter to enjoy a nightcap in front of a roaring
fire, before retiring to cosy beds topped with classical bedspreads,
for a blissful night's sleep.
