Glenmarkie Lodge

Driving through the glen, the first sight of this historic hunting lodge with its handsome turret, set against a backdrop of forest, heather-covered foothills and mountains, is literally breathtaking. Splendidly secluded with sweeping vistas and with the sound of mountain water running through the burns, staying at Glenmarkie is a very special experience. Turning into the courtyard, the silence of the Scottish Highlands is all around as you are welcomed into the galleried hall, with its large open fireplace and comfortable antique furniture.

Crisp linen sheets dress the beds in each room, while just outside, the glen stretches out to the Lochan where ospreys dive for trout and guests can fly fish from the banks. Dinner is a candlelight indulgence at a centuries old refectory table with vegetables from the kitchen garden and home cooked fare, featuring local game, fish and sumptuous puddings.

Tea and delicious home made fruit cake are served in front of the fire or, on warm days, by the tennis court and croquet lawn. Picnics by the burn mean lazy, tranquil afternoons; a game of snooker or a workout in the gym may be your idea of relaxation; whilst swimming in the indoor pool and then a sauna, is a luxurious start to the day or a chance to wind down before dinner.

Wander through over 100 acres of mature woodland, covered in a blanket of bluebells in spring, play tennis, fish for salmon and trout or simply relax in the rotating summer house soaking up the sun. The more energetic can climb up to Elibank Castle and enjoy spectacular views across the valley.
